Questions About Commercial Plumbing and Contracting
Before reaching out, many property managers, landlords and business owners have the same questions. We've answered the most common ones here.
What Does It Mean That You Hold Both a B License and a C36 License in California?
A B license authorizes a general contractor to manage construction projects involving two or more unrelated trades. A C36 license covers licensed plumbing work. Holding both means US Plumbing Services Inc. can legally manage the full scope of a commercial renovation, construction and plumbing, under one contract, without a second contractor.
Do I Need a Licensed Contractor to Pull Permits for My Commercial Renovation in Oceanside?
Yes. In California, any construction or plumbing work valued at $500 or more requires a licensed contractor. For commercial Tenant Improvements (TIs) involving multiple trades, a Class B General Contractor license is required to hold the prime contract. Hiring an unlicensed contractor risks failed inspections, stop-work orders and legal liability. You can verify any contractor's license at the CSLB website.
Can a Plumber Handle My Commercial Renovation, or Do I Need a Separate General Contractor?
A C36-licensed plumber can perform plumbing work but cannot manage a renovation involving multiple trades. For a project that includes construction, plumbing and finishing work, you'd normally need both a general contractor and a licensed plumber, unless your contractor holds both licenses. US Plumbing Services Inc. holds both a B and C36, so one contractor manages the full project.
Do You Work on Residential Properties, or Only Commercial?
Our primary focus is commercial properties: offices, restaurants, retail spaces and multi-unit buildings. We do handle select residential services such as water heater installation, leak repairs and re-piping. We do not take on general residential construction or home renovation projects.
What Is a Tenant Improvement (TI) and Do You Handle the Full Scope?
A Tenant Improvement (TI) is a renovation made to a commercial leased space, for example, reconfiguring a bathroom layout, moving plumbing lines or building out an office. TIs require permits and must comply with California building and plumbing codes. As a dual-licensed contractor (B + C36), we manage the full scope, construction and plumbing included.
Do You Handle the Permits for Commercial Plumbing and Renovation Projects?
As a licensed general contractor and plumber, US Plumbing Services Inc. is familiar with local permit and inspection requirements in Oceanside and North County, San Diego. Reach out to discuss your project and we can walk you through what permits will likely be required.
How Do I Get a Quote for My Commercial Plumbing or Renovation Project?
Call or text 760-536-5056 with a description of your project, or text a photo of your space for a faster, more accurate response.
Are Commercial Bathrooms in California Required to Be ADA Compliant?
Yes. Under the ADA and California Building Code, commercial properties open to the public must have ADA-compliant restrooms, including specific requirements for fixture heights, clearance space, grab bars and accessible stall dimensions. Non-compliance can result in fines and legal action.
